Emarca's Journey

The institution was founded on May 13, 1997, in a philanthropic manner and without official documentation. It began its activities in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, in the neighborhood of Paciência, serving local youth with a telecommunications cable installation course aimed at employment in the former Telerj company, which at the time hired young people trained in this course, as it was taught by engineers from the company itself.

At that time, the workforce was qualified only with a high school diploma, but after the company was sold and a new technological era began, new requirements were introduced to join the workforce. Due to this restructuring, many employees resigned or left the company, including the engineers responsible for the course, which had generated significant income and employment opportunities.

With no further employment opportunities due to the company’s new direction, it was decided to end the course.

After evaluating the situation and to avoid shutting down an institution that was operating unofficially, we decided to change its legal status and register it as an NGO, remaining non-profit and focused on ensuring rights, citizenship, and education.

For the past 10 years, we have been operating in the Barreira do Vasco community, serving children and adolescents aged 6 to 14 with reading workshops, a community library, storytelling, and English and Spanish classes in partnership with the company Jive through its volunteers, and the AIESEC Institute, which enables us to transform lives and share new knowledge.
